Immune System Changes & Fibromyalgia: A Game-Changer for Diagnosis & Treatment
Here at the London Fibro Clinic, our world-class Fibromyalgia Doctors are renowned for taking a synergistic multifaceted approach to treatment, and always being abreast of the latest cutting-edge research and innovative treatments, therapies and injectables. To that end, we would like to inform readers about the recent published report on how the immune system is now front and centre in fibro research.
King’s College London & the Focus on Fibromyalgia
Recent research undertaken by scientists at London’s King’s College, has just been published in the respected medical journal, Brain. This provides even more proof that fibro is an immune system disease, as opposed to one of the brain.
Did You Know?
“It is estimated to affect 1 in 20 people in the UK1 and there is currently no cure” [1]
“Fibromyalgia is characterised by symptoms including unrelenting pain and debilitating fatigue. The condition is hard to diagnose” [1]. – This is particularly the case with GPs, the majority of whom have not undergone the essential years of additional training and expertise in pain conditions and fibromyalgia. Moreover, at the present time, there is no acknowledged diagnostic test on the market, and symptoms overlap with several other disorders [1]. – And this is why booking an in-person or online appointment with one of our renowned Fibro Pain Doctors, is a smart move to get your life back on track as soon as possible.
Taking a Look at the Latest Fibro Research
Mathilde Israel, head author of the aforementioned study and King’s College research associate at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, stated: “People report a range of sensory abnormalities such as pins and needles, tingling, sensitivity to different fabrics or extreme sensitivity to cold like when they open the fridge or step out on a winter’s day – which impact on quality of life” [1]. Indeed, the King’s College team of scientists, together with collaborators at the University of Liverpool, are convinced that the above mentioned symptoms are due to “changes in nerve cells in the body, specifically ‘mechanoreceptors’, which are specialised cells that send signals in the body to detect touch [1]. – Findings that our Fibro Doctors regard as realistic, and a doorway to new innovative treatments that will transform the lives of fibromyalgia sufferers, many of whom have very difficult lives. – The latter of which has not always been acknowledged by all GPs, in that they have often regarded this debilitating condition as something with is “just in the patient’s head…”
Getting Things Sorted
Once your Fibro Specialist has reviewed your medical history, and asked you various pertinent questions, they will then arrange for any necessary examination, tests and scans. Then, once they have provided you with an accurate diagnosis, they will draw up a Holistic Personalised Treatment Plan (that will include targeting the immune system, the nervous system, muscle stress, inflammation, lethargy, sensory issues, insomnia and brain fog), that you can get started on right away. This is likely to include one or more of the following:
- Conventional treatment
- State-of-the-art therapies
- Injectables (including pain blockers and Botox), and
- Lifestyle advice (including diet and exercise)
Moreover, everything will be explained to you in simple laymen’s terms, and you can ask your Fibro Doctor questions, and discuss any concerns that you may have. You can also rest in the knowledge that the London Fibro Clinic is just a phone call away, and that you can be monitored by your Fibromyalgia Pain Doctor via online appointments, if this is easier for you than attending in person.
